There is no button that takes you to the top spot. There are steps that improve your chances. Here is how to rank higher on Google, step by step.
A page that isn't in the index can't rank. Connect your site to Google Search Console. The URL Inspection tool shows for each page whether it is indexed, and Search Console alerts you when Google runs into indexing problems. Submit your XML sitemap there too: it helps Google discover your URLs.
Search for your own keyword on Google and look at what comes up at the top. Guides, pricing pages, lists of businesses? That tells you what searchers want. Google says content should be made for people first. A page that answers the question in full stands a better chance than one that mainly repeats the keyword.
Google uses the title element, among other things, to create the title link in the search results. Describe what is on the page clearly and briefly, and make every title unique. A title like “Home” or “Services” says nothing.
Someone searching for “replacement windows” wants a page about replacement windows, not a list of twelve services. A dedicated page for each service, and for each area where you genuinely work, gives Google something clear to show. Don't copy those pages with only a different place name: Google treats pages like that as spam. Read more on our local SEO services page.
Google finds pages mainly through links. Link from your most important pages to related pages, with link text that says where the link goes. “Click here” helps nobody; “bathroom renovation in Bristol” does.
Core Web Vitals measure how quickly your page loads, how quickly it responds and how visually stable it is, meaning whether content shifts unexpectedly. They are part of what Google calls page experience. Check heavy images, third-party scripts and the speed of your server first.
For local businesses, your Google Business Profile counts: complete details, a verified location, correct opening hours and replies to reviews. For everyone, links from other sites count. Don't buy them: buying links to influence rankings is against Google's spam policies.
And be patient. Anyone who promises a first position is promising something Google itself says nobody can guarantee. Rather not do this yourself? Read about our SEO services.
